PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING VERY CAREFULLY
Arrival: The ensemble will aim to arrive half an hour before the start of the concert.
Placing the Ensemble Through experience, we have learnt that the best way for children to sit, in an oblong Hall, is to place the Ensemble against the shorter side wall facing the length of the room.
Refreshments: The musicians would appreciate being offered tea or coffee on arrival.
Some musicians would also welcome a glass of water for the concert.
Chairs: Ensembles will require adult-sized chairs with no arms, and cellists often prefer
a piano stool. Chairs or benches will need to be laid out for the children, if required.
Piano: The piano, if used, would need to be tuned as close to the date of the concert as possible.
The Pianist would need a piano stool.
Number in audience: Optimum number for Primary Schools 90-120; for Secondary Schools 50-75.
Concert Programme: This will be sent to you before the concert, with a short biography of the ensemble including their names. There may be changes to the programme on the day, but the musicians will announce all the pieces to the pupils. Please copy and hand one to all adults present.
Preparation: If the ensemble is not bringing the programme/Feedback form to hand out to all the teachers, then please print the two forms back to back. There is also a special explanatory leaflet for the Staff so that they can prepare the children for the visit. CAVATINA can, on request, supply some CDs of the pieces for use in assembly.
At the start of each concert, please explain the aims of the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust, and welcome and briefly introduce the ensemble. The musicians will give their individual names. If you would like to appoint an older child to thank the ensemble at the end of the concert, please do so.
To obtain the full benefit of the presence of first class professional musicians, and as a mark of respect to them, we would expect the Head Teacher and the Head of Music to be present during the hour of the concert. All teachers, staff and any interested parents, governors or members of the public, whom you would like to invite, would also be welcome to attend the concert.
Feedback: Last but not least, as the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust is bearing the full cost of this visit (we pay on average more than £100 per musician) we do insist on receiving FEEDBACK from students and staff as soon as possible after the concert and certainly not later than 2 weeks after the visit. Impressions in drawings and/or words are especially welcome. The best ideas will be included in our Newsletter. Secondary school pupils can email their thoughts to majaro@cavatina.net
We regretfully inform you in advance that non-attendance by the Head and/or failure to send feedback will result in NO FURTHER VISITS.
We would like to thank you for your participation and hope you enjoy it!
